   I'm using a nifty plugin called Widget Logic - it's great - it allows me to really set up widgets on a per page basis.

   What I want to do, however is check to see if a page has a widget so that I can output some basic code before and after the widget(s) are rendered.

   Can someone point me in the right direction?

   check out widget logic's widget_content filter functionality - that might be the best way to do what you want
