Character entities come out wrong in comments (4 posts)

When somebody leaves a comment, the accents come out wrong. I have tried to correct the comments by editing then and replacing the accents with straight character entities in html, but the editor strips the character entities and puts the accents back in the text, which then display wrong. An example follows:

Un nuevo comentario en la entrada #144 "Base de datos de árboles de Panamá" espera su aprobación
    http://alairelibre.ws/?p=144

    Autor : Irving (IP: 172.17.1.1 , 172.17.1.1)
    E-mail : irving@alairelibre.net
    URI : http://alairelibre.net
    Whois : http://ws.arin.net/cgi-bin/whois.pl?queryinput=172.17.1.1
    Comentario:

¡Yo voy en esa! <----- first letter in this line is wrong

Just a shot in the dark, but have you tried installing the WP 2.0.3 tuneup plugin? It might help this issue: http://txfx.net/code/wordpress/wordpress-203-tuneup/

Thanks for the advice, but the plugins do not work for comments. The funny thing about the comments glitch is that I recently wrote a post where I made reference to a previous post, and, since WP will post this as a comment for the other post, the extended characters in that comment did display correctly.
