\ character appears in my custom form only when embedded in wp templates

I have a form that I made. At first, it wasn’t a part of wordpress-it was just a blank form in a different directory than wordpress, and it was working fine. But, now that I have included that form on a page, whenever I use single or double quotes in any field on the form, it is escaped by the \ character. How can I prevent this from happening? Thanks.
