• Hello,
I recently exported my wordpress site from wordpress.com to a self-hosted blog.
My SEO guy insisted on us having our own self-hosted blog instead of one hosted by wordpress.com so we made the switch.
However, we need to have the URL from the wordpress.com blog, because the URL on our wordpress.org blog is completely unrelated to our store.

The blog hosted on wordpress.com is blog.wallsrepublic.com – wallsrepublic.com is hosted by Volusion so we are unable to install wordpress directly into our site because Volusion does not support php files.

The self-hosted blog is on primewalls.com/Blog/wordpress. I know it’s a really ugly URL but I was just using it temporarily until I could switch the URL back to wallsrepublic.
So is it possible to somehow change the primewalls.com/Blog URL to blog.wallsrepublic.com or even wallsrepublic.com/blog? We cannot link our wordpress.org blog onto our eCommerce website until it has only wallsrepublic in the URL.
Is this possible, or do I have to buy my own domain like wallsrepublicblog.com?

    Please Help.

  • Do you have access to your domain? If so, you should be able to set a DNS record to point blog.wallsrepublic.com to your hosting server. You’d need to have the ability to add a hosting account as well, but it is definitely possible.

Okay so I add a DNS record within the primewalls DNS settings, and the hostname should be the blog.wallsrepublic.com?

Or is it the other way around, I add a DNS record within wallsrepublic and point it to primewalls where my self-hosted blog is?

Sorry I am not very good with technical stuff.

For the DNS records at wallsrepublic, if you login you should be able to set an A record. It would look something like this:

    Record type: A
    Source: blog
    IP: yourserverIP

You could then setup a hosting account for blog.wallsrepublic.com and use that for the website, without affecting your Volusion site.

Thank you for your help. I think I figured it out – I just need to get access to adding a hosting account.

    Not a problem! Good luck!
