I'm looking to change my theme but I don't know how to do it seamlessly. Once I activate a new theme, it'll take a while to customize everything. I was looking at some of the theme prevew plugins, but I don't know if this is what I need. Is it possible to customize a new theme and sidebar and plugins without affecting my current site and the theme, and how do I do that?

Hmm. Will it be a one step process to change to that new theme, once I set it up?
Themes are kind of tricky to me because I wouldn't know all the options until I activate it.
If you install WP locally, you can play with as many themes as you like without impacting on your live site. Once you've customised a theme to your liking and you are happy that it is performing correctly, it's simply a case of uploading the theme folder to your site using FTP and then activating it as normal.

Can I copy my WP backup so that I can play with the actual data?

So.. I imported my backup to my localhost. It turned my local WP control panel into my existing live one. I had to delete the database and start over.
How can I import data without turning an account into the one imported from? I'm using WordPress Database Backup plugin to create my backup.
Well, how can you import data, first? I am trying to follow this process here, and don't find how to import/export.
ETA: Oh, DUH, wait. Found both. Sorry. Wenowreturntoourregularprogram.
Install WP locally then export your live data and import it into your local install.

esmi, I've been working on my new theme on my localhost and I just uploaded to my live site. When I look at it through Theme Test Drive, I don't see any of the customizations I've made. I took the theme folder under htdocs in xampplite in my C drive, where it told me to install WordPress. What am I missing???
