I would love to change my config name to something other than wp-config.php for added security reasons.

There are a lot of references to wp-config.php though, so can anyone suggest to me how I can easily change the config name and still make sure everything works?

I had a problem with a hacker that over-wrote the file...I guess just setting it to 644 will do the trick..right?

Generally, yep. As long as your password isn't easily guessed. ;-)
