Changing the order of Link IDs or Link Categories? (2 posts)

    Hello all -
I'm a newbie to WordPress (and somewhat to blogging) so please bear with me.
I've downloaded one of the 3-column styles from AlexKing's website, and applied it to my blog. Now, I'm trying to organize the names, number, location and order of my link categories. For example, let's say I'd like to create 3 new link categories named "Apples", "Oranges", and "Pears". I want to put the "Apples" and "Pears" link categories in the left hand column, and the "Oranges" link category into the right hand column. Also, I want to move my "Archives" link from the left hand column to the right hand column, and I want the built-in WordPress "Links" category to appear at the bottom of the page, after all other link categories I might create now or in the future.
What is the best way for me to go about changing these settings? In the WordPress settings, I see that I can sort the link Categories by ID, but I don't know how to change the assigned ID itself. This means I'm stuck with whichever ID is assigned to a new category....or, I'll be doing alot of delete and recreating of new categories in order to give them the IDs I want? Sorting by any of the other fields won't work.....I'd like them to be sorted in a fixed fashion.
As for moving elements (i.e., calendar, archives, search, etc) from one column to another, do I need to tweak my wp-layout.css file, or the index.php file?
Your advice and help is GREATLY appreciated!! :)

To move elements, it's index.php with a 3 col design.
