[resolved] changing the name of the theme only within dashboard > Appearance > theme (4 posts)

We have a multisite where everyone uses the same theme, but some of the sites needed the theme tweaked for them a little.
I need to change the name of the theme, but only in Appearances so I can detect which theme goes to which site.

I'm not looking to steal a theme nothing that devious, just need to be able to Activate the correct theme for the correct site - right now I have 4 themes that all say the same theme name.

As usual, search for 4 days, as soon as I ask the question I find the answer: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/change-display-name-of-theme?replies=4

It looks like you have resolved this, but I offer advice nonetheless:

Use child themes if you only need to make tweaks to the same theme.

This way the parent theme remains pristine (and updates gracefully if it is from the repository) and a child theme needs only contain the files you have altered to accomplish the tweaks.

    Thank you.
I know I should. I can justify my laziness in creating a child theme because I change my theme so often that the chances of an update effecting my theme is minimal. I put up my new theme yesterday, I'm already working on the next.

But you are correct, I should do child themes. I do child themes for my clients - Honest!
