• Hello everyone,

I seem to have a problem regarding the image that is displayed when I share my blog link to someone on Facebook or adding it to my LinkedIn profile. When I copy and paste my link to anyone, as you all know, an image of the website will come up.

The image being displayed is not the one that I want (it is one of my previous posts), and I am unsure where to go change it. The image used to change depending on the recency of the posts on my blog but it seems that the link now is always displaying the same image. I have the featured image plug-in but I know for sure that is for specific posts and not the image of the whole website.

I understand that this may be a very simple problem, although I’m fairly new to the WordPress back end when creating a blog.

The blog I need help on is http://digitallyepic.com/

Any help on this is much appreciated and thank you in advance to anyone.

    Ali

  • Hi elrifai,

It sounds like you need to specify a featured image using Open Graph tags – could you post a link to your site so I could see if your site already uses them? This will help in amending them or coming up with a fix to your problem 🙂

    Thanks!

    Hi @garethallison,

Thank you so much for getting back to me.

If you mean the link to my website, it is as follows:

    http://digitallyepic.com/

But if you mean to send you a link differently I’m unsure what you mean or how to show this to you on wordpress.org.

What’s happening is that when I, for example, send the link to my blog to someone in a PM on Facebook, Facebook automatically gives the site an image. That is the image I would like to chance. I hope that makes sense.

Is there any other way I can post it elsewhere for you to see it?

Thanks again for your help and reply!

Cool, thanks. What is the image that you are wanting to appear on Facebook when you post your site URL on there?

    Hi @garethallison,

    Thanks again for your reply!

Currently if I post my website URL anywhere, it gives me the second image in this post:

    http://digitallyepic.com/bringing-paella-to-the-middle-east/

But I’d like to just have it as anything else, or it can be this post’s first image for example:

    http://digitallyepic.com/professional-gamers-the-unsung-athletes/

I know how to set up featured images for posts, but what I really want is to customize the image for when I post the URL to my site in general to be changed.

This should also work for when I post elsewhere and not just Facebook.

I really appreciate your help on this and taking the time!

    No worries 🙂

OK, so I checked the source code of your page, and your Open Graph tags are being set by your Yoast SEO plugin, although the one tag it omits is, of course, the image tag. http://cl.ly/image/453e2F1q2b3D

I found an explanation of how to insert this using Yoast here:
    https://yoast.com/social-media-optimization-with-wordpress-seo-by-yoast/

Here is a screenshot of the part of the page you’ll need to check out:

    Hope this helps!

    Hi @garethallison,

Ok so either I don’t understand how fix it, or maybe I didn’t explain correctly.

It seems the links you sent me will allow me to change the image on a Facebook page if I have one for my blog, correct?

I’m not trying to do that, I am trying to change the image of the link to my website only; when I post it anywhere (LinkedIn, or Facebook or anywhere else) it’s giving a default image which I do not want.

I followed the steps you have sent, and Open Graph tags are set. As soon as I enter Facebook insights, there’s nothing I can do on that page.

I’ve tried adding images on Yoast’s social page, on default and front page, but nothing works.

I apologize if I misunderstood what I need to do.
