Changing root URL to include my keyword (1 post)

The goal is to get my main keyword on all page URLS both when browsing the page, and on the green URL in Google search results. Many sources say this will improve search results, and stupidly enough my domain name doesn't contain my keyword. I know, I know. Anyway, for examples of what I want, see below...

On the homepage I would like the URL to show: website.com/keyword

On sub-pages like 'contact us' I would like the URL to show: website.com/keyword/contactus

I've done some Google searching for the answer, and also on these blogs, and from half hour of research all I can conclude is that there is no "do this and it will work" method. I see the option in the general settings, but didn't want to screw anything up. People seem to have a lot of trouble with this for some reason?!?!
