    Hi
When I started a WP blog, I didn’t set up categories as most of the blog was centred around the same topic.
In the permalink section, I used the follwing: /%category%/%postname%/

All my post urls are like this: http://my site/uncategorized/post title/

I have done a lot of SEO to the site but I’m considering finding a way to lose the ‘uncategorized’ part of the url but I don’t want to lose any rank/juice I already have for the individual pages and neither do I want to end up having 404 errors all over the place.

Is there a way that I can remove ‘uncategorized’ from the urls without damaging the site and SEO?

Any advice on this would really help as I’m uncertain how to go about this.
    The site is HERE

    Thanks

  • Not really since when you remove the uncategorized from the URL the link will change of course resulting in different SEO ranking.

You can however remove the line and set any request for /uncategorized/post-name to /post-name ( or the new structure ) with a 403 moved response using .htaccess rules.
