Changing from vanilla (default) settings (5 posts)

    Hi,

I've just installed WP 3.4.1 and am about to start blogging. Are there any settings which you recommend changing from the start e.g. permalink settings? I'm particularly thinking about settings which are best setup from the beginning, any variations from the default install?

    Thanks in advance

The only ones that you should change (if you need to) before doing anything is the media sizes, mainly the thumbnail image size. This is really the only things that need to be done before anything else as the images don't get re-sized if you change the size later on.

After that, then change your permalink structure, and just do a general run trhough of all of the menus on the 'Settings' menu to check if it's all correct. There's not much more to it then that.

That's awesome Michael, thank you. Do you have any recommendations about the thumbnail image size? I've not a clue as to what would be good or otherwise?!
    Thanks

I don't normally bother changing it. The standard 150x150 pixels works fine for most applications, so there's not a lot of people that actualyl change it. If you don't have a reason to change it, I wouldn't worry about it.
