I'm building my WordPress site offline with Mamp Pro. My trial period is now over and I'm trying to change to normal Mamp but it doesn't work.
I get this message: Error establishing a database connection
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thank you for your answers.

Have you created a new database for your local site and are the database settings in your wp-config.php correct?

Thank you so much! I got it working but all my pages are now missing. Can I get them back somehow?
Did you make a backup of your database from Mamp Pro?
if you did you can import the old database: https://codex.wordpress.org/Restoring_Your_Database_From_Backup

I really value your help but I'm just wondering why didn't you tell that I should back up my files before creating this new database?
I'm really sorry about that.

This made me conclude you already uninstalled Mamp Pro.
Can you still see the database you created in Mamp Pro?

No I can't see that database. Does it mean that the new one replaced the old one?

I did not install or uninstall Mamp at this point. I just changed to the regular version and I got the error message. Is there any way I could access the old database and get that information back? I just lost 2 weeks work here.

No. You can create multiple databases with Mamp and Mamp Pro, and creating a new one will not replace other databases. I just installed mamp Pro and I could switch between the two without any problems.
Try:
- quitting and restarting mamp and see if you can see the old database in the phpMyAdmin. (re-starting your computer is better because it will flush the DNS cache).
- Deleting cookies and cache in your browser
Did you try the Mamp forums: http://forum.mamp.info/index.php?c=1
