• Hi, i know this has been covered but i think i have got myself into a bit of a tis was with information overload. I have this set up

.co.uk domain fully in use hosted at 1&1 (i know!) and its fully indexed on google.

    I own the .com

I want to use the .com

TRhe .co.uk is actually really low traffic because at present all my traffic goes to site.wordpress.com and redirects to the .co.uk. This was only a temporary measure and I want to turn the wordpress.com site off.

SO, i think I need a 301 redirect to ensure all indexed links from .co.uk go to the new .com.

So far I think I need to do the following

    1) Change of address with Google Webmaster

    2) change my url on my web host from .co.uk to .com

    3) somehow do the redirect itself. Should I use a plugin for this? (this is the issue)

    4) in addition, i have a number of affiliate links. Would I need to reregister the .com address at each of the affiliates?

    any guidance very much appreciated

Can anyone point me to a clear tutorial or resource for this? Or better, has experience carrying out the redirect?

thanks. Seems to be moving hosts though rather than just renaming the url. I keep finding posts about changing hosts.. I guess I’ll keep looking.

Ive done a full back up, maybe il try a few methods.

I stupidly thought it would be a simple case of changing the Site url and home as per the original set up, then redirecting my old url .co.uk to the .com with my provider. No such luck!

Guys, I’m getting desperate now, i cannot believe it is this difficult.

Every single place talks about moving hosts. I literally just want to change the URL

I looked at the link above from Mark Urquhart (thank you). And also
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL

(nonsense and doesn’t work, methods 2 and 4 are two ways of doing the same thing that doesn’t work)

    I also checked this http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress

With regard to the latter, i cannot tell if it is saying that “you HAVE TO MOVE YOUR FILES in order to change a URL”. I thinks this is why I am hesitant to get going, i cannot work out whether i need to move anything, or whether this is a case of changing settings. My site is fully indexed on google and I don’t want to have to start again.

IS changing the URL really just creating a duplicate of the old site with a new url as opposed to changing the url of an existing site?

Please if anyone has any pointers on this issue I would be very very very very very grateful indeed. I have to say, i find most things easy but this has absolutely beaten me. At this rate I will remove everything and do a fresh install with my new domain
