Right now i have wordpress installed in my root directory. I would like to move my wordpress files to a new directory, but i was wondering if i could keep the original permalink url’s.

(www.domain.com/original-post) instead of it being (www.domain.com/newdir/original-post)

Yes and no.
I mean if you do not plan to have other things at your root and you just want to move the WP files/folders… then follow:
Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory

But if you plan to install/upload other things to the root – then I don’t see how can you keep the old URLs. However, you can use a 301 permanent redirect to send the old URLs to the new ones.

thanks for the quick reply moshu,

i want to move my wordpress directory so i can upload an index.htm page which i want to feature a background image, navigation that links to my blog, instead of just having the blog show up when the domain is loaded.

would this be possible without moving wordpress? and just creating a “page” ?
