Changing default error messages with Contact Form 7 (7 posts)

    Hi,

I am trying desperately to change the default error messages in Contact form 7 to be a bit more user friendly.

I have found a function called function default_message($status){} in the wp-contact-form-7.php file (line 796) which seems to list all the different validation messages but this doesn't seem to help.

I have edited this file and FTP'ed it to my site multiple times but the error messages remain unchanged. There are no other mentions of the error messages anywhere else in the plugin folder as far as I can see there are no additional database tables which are storing the messages.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

You should be able to change those messages in the configuration settings in your admin area. Go to Tools/Contact form 7 and scroll to the bottom, then click "show" beside "Messages"

    Just found it!

For anyone else having the same problem it is as the bottom of the form generation page accessed by..

    /tools/contact form 7

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the small and quite well hidden "show" link next to the messages section.

Hope this saves someone some time :)

Haha, thanks figaro, I had just found it. I wonder why they decided to hide that section away at the bottom when all the others are open by default?

    Thanks again.

Took me a day or two when I first started using it to find those settings as well ;-)

    Hi Stompfrog and figaro!
I don not understand about "Use HTML content type" and "Message body".

    What mean in it!

And how can we send an e-mail with form that we created (include HTML)??

    Can you help me!?

    Thanks!

Thank you so much for pointing out the 'Show' button! Trying to change the error messages in the PHP file was not working and driving me mad!

    Thanks again!
