Changing container size

    Hi! Im working on my site http://www.johnschuette.com. The theme is Hatch.
    I’d like to change the container size to add responsive images and slide shows. My images are 1024 wide and the themes containers are something like 600 wide.
    I guess I have to go inte the CSS code?

    Also im wondering if the container height has any significance.
    The the width ob is obviously important for pictures. So, in case id like to post several images and objects in the container, what height should I use? 1024X5000? Or more? Or less?
