So, if it's a supposed security risk to have the main user titled admin, then why doesn't wordpress give users an option to change the admin username during install?
They want you to have to work for it? LOL!

I can't find any comment about the author of this plugin. I am reluctant to download the plugin based on you "warning". Can you clarify, or tell me where to find the comment?

The easiest way to get rid of admin within wp is to try the following
Logged in as admin, create a new user with admin rights. Then log out
Log in as the new user and delete admin
