I have networked version working properly with the subdomain setting. All is well on primary domain.

I setup a new subdomain but I wanted to change the URL.

    http://www.newname.domain.com

Then I changed the settings in the network dashboard to http://www.newname.com (which I have registered and pointing at the root. The URL works! I can see the wordpress page but I can't seem to get to the admin console. The linking email wants me to go to the original name. The network dashboard points at the correct directory but my username and password are refused. Is there another database file I need to edit if I change the url?

    Thanks!
    Raz

  2. Don't do it that way.

    Use a domain mapping plugin.

Ok so you are saying put it back to the default and find a plugin I'll give it a try.

    Thanks!

So I didn't follow instructions very well. I just am trying not to use too many plug in.

I'd like to resurrect this topic http://wordpress.org/support/topic/simple-domain-mapping-without-any-plugins-wordpress-30?replies=14

    Because,
I've followed the advice and gotten the subdomain mapped correctly but I'm finding that my media library isn't working. When I upload a file it appears to work then immediately I get the red x and the file isn't there. What I'm looking for is where the subdomain things the media library is and how do it set it?

I created a domain as this http://bridge2thecloud.b2bmsp.com and once it was installed I changed it in WP to http://bridge2thecloud.com and made the setting changes to the wp-config file recommended above all works except media uploads. (I chose subdomain not subdirectory)

    Thanks!

  6. Use this: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/

Please don't do it the other way. It's harder, and not supported by anyone.

I will try it. The manual requirement makes me nervous and I really want to keep the domains separate. Don't want a hint that the new domain is in any way related to my other domain. I notice that the dashboard login will always show the complete domain name. Are there any other situations where it may become revealed?

Then you shouldn't use Multisite. Seriously. If it's that big a deal, don't do it. Make separate sites.
