Dear all, I changed the WordPress Option "Encoding for pages and feeds" from UTF to ISO-8859-1 and back (1.5). Now every German Umlaut in an old post is displayed as question mark "?". Look for instance at: http://medinfo.netbib.de/archives/2005/04/20/458/
New postings are displayed correctly. What have I done with this simple option changed forward/backward and what to do now? Thanks! Oliver
1. What have I done with this simple option changed forward/backward
- You changed the encoding :)
Anything written with a different character encoding shows up with strange characters in page with another encoding.
2. Try this thread: http://wordpress.org/support/topic.php?id=20807
And stop switching encoding.
And stop switching encoding :-(

Yes, of course - I know. But I switched back almost immediately and still all postings before the double switch cripple the German Umlaute. E.g. my WordPress option is UTF-8 but 400 postings done in UTF-8 still show question marks instead of Umlaute. Would be lovely if somebody could confirm that this is definitely not a WordPress problem (but maybe the Apache Server?).
I have used the method described in the thread linked above after I imported a Greymatter blog to WP. GM posts were all in iso-8859-2. Now they are OK in utf-8 after applying to conversion.
my utf characters are broken, and i didnt switch anything. everything is set up properly. there is a unicode bug in wordpress probably
