   I had to change the username of my host. So, my hosting account used to be accessed under the name 'bill', and recently i had to change it to 'billy'. I cannot change it back.

   So, for example, my ftp address is now changed.

   It also means I have to change something in my wordpress database. Right now there is an error in the database so my site is down. "Error establishing a database connection"

   What do I need to replace in my database in order to make my site work? And do I need to replace something in my files also?

   You need to contact your hosting provider and find out whether your database host, username or password has changed. If they have, you'll need to update your wp-config.php file.
