Hi, I know there are have been posts on this, but I can't seem to pinpoint the steps.

I have installed WP in mysite.com/wordpress
and want to change it to mysite.com/teaching

What are the steps I need to do to make this happen?

    Thanks very much!

    go to
    dashboard - settings - general
    change both url's to
    http://www.mysite.com/teaching
    save
    DO NOT view site yet

ftp to site or use host's file manager to rename /wordpress folder to /teaching

    now log in to dashboard
    go to
    settings - permalinks
    re-save permalinks
    view site

  3. I don't think you can do that with MultiSite, Sam... I mean, there are places in the wp-config that has the domain as well... not to mention that the general section doesn't have the urls in multisite.

I think this almost has to be a SQL change.

    ipstenu
you're right - it only works if you haven't set up multi-site yet - just tested it
    database edit it is

  5. Right, so it's a search and replace in your whole database for old domain and replace with the new one. Plus go into the wp-config and change the domain name in there. Sorry :(

    so I search: mysite.com/wordpress
    and replace with: mysite.com/teaching?

  8. Yeah, though that might not be everything. I think there are a couple places where just the folder names are there. You may need to look in your wp_site database table.

Well I ended up emailing my server company asking how to access the files, and they just did it all for me. But it's good to know what's going on. Thanks very much for your responses.
