Change to permalinks breaks archive links (4 posts)

I used to have my perma links as %year%/%month%/%day%/%postname%
Since some of the post name get long, this translated into some realy long links. After some soul searching, I made the decision that having the year/month/day in the link was really unnecessary. So I changed my permalink configuration to /%postname%. This gets me what I want for the links to the posts.
Only now my archive links are FUBAR. It now comes out as: /post/%pos instead of with the month & year name. In the options area, there was a way to create custom permalinks for categories, and was wondering how difficult would it be to also have custom archive permalinks as well?
Idealy, I'd have /post/%postname% as my post links... /category/%categoryname% as my category links, and /archives/%year%/%month%/%day% for the archive links.
Possible? Viable? Or am I talking crazy?
