• I did try searching the site and thought I had found the answer but while close was not exactly right.

I am a recent refugee fleeing from b2evo and while I have succeeded in switching to WP on one site (although the post converter didn’t work) I have more to change.

My problem is that one of them which kept getting hacked under b2evo had a custom design for each category which was a mod that I created out of need/desire.

I knew b2evo fairly well by then so I knew easily how to create that to make it work and then I shared that knowledge on the forums.

What I would like to know is can I use WP to have a different theme, or even a slightly changed main theme (like a pumpkin image or halloween colors), for different categories like Christmas, Birthdays, Halloween, and so on.

I hope I have made myself clear, if not perhaps I can explain better as the site in question is not active currently. I removed all b2evo pages.

  • You can’t [easily] do it by swapping themes. However, you can [very] easily do something just like it with one theme and Category_Templates (follow the link to have a look).

I have looked at the category_templates page over and over again and it doesn’t many any sense. I mean it does but every theme I have does not have any category.php page at all.

All I had was the index.php page and I tried editing it like they said there but nothing changed. =(

I have since found other threads on changing themes per category and tried a few but they didn’t work either.

    *scratches head*

This is certainly a puzzle and with it being near 2am here now I am going to call it a night. I won’t give up though. I love coding and I love it more when there is a challenge. =)

You can create a million template files in a theme and WP knows exactly when to use them: Template_Hierarchy.
If you want different display/layout for different “cases” – you edit the proper template file.

If they are not in your theme, just create them. Save as… etc.

I have tried that but it didn’t work. So I create them but what goes in them?

There is a theme I just download names GYS Themed Categories and you can specify a different theme for any category you’d like to, you can get it from http://get-your-stuff.com/gys-themed-categories-20.html good luck!
