   I want to create a few pages in my WordPress site that do not follow the general theme and not look like a blog. How do I alter the theme on selected pages to do this?

   If you create a new page you can choose the page template, it will be other than the normal page.php . If you want to create a page template look here : http://codex.wordpress.org/Pages#Creating_Your_Own_Page_Templates
