Change recent posts widget links.

I would like the links from my Recent Post widget (WP) to open on the image only and not the page that show featured image, next, previous. Is there a way to do this. If not is there a way to move the contant further up as there is too much space above the image and the image can not be seen properly without scrolling. I use a twenty eleven child theme.
