Change Permalinks after having content posted (4 posts)

Ok I just now learned how important it IS to change the permalink structure after installing WordPress, unfortunately I'm finding out AFTER there has been many posts. Can someone point me to a comprehensive guide including ALL the steps I need to change the permalink structure so that the old posts will still show up and the new ones will be linked correctly? I see how to change them in wordpress but how do I deal with all the older content and other pages in my site?

I know there will be some redirecting and some modifying the htacess file but I need a step by step guide for doing it all...any help or ideas?

WordPress should do all this for you automatically when changing the permalinks form the backend.

Here is what WordPress has to say about the permalinks http://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_Permalinks_Screen

I have changed permalinks 1 year after a blog was installed and everything worked fine.

OMG I think I love you; REALLY?

I won't have any trouble with re-directs or links to posts out on the web now - after I change them?

Just making sure; by backend you mean thru the dashboard/settings/permalink settings?

So after I adjust that do I need to do anything with the Pretty-permalinks?
