Change of domain name (4 posts)

    Hi there
I've a customer who has their WordPress installation installed on hosting and their domain name pointed to it. Currently, they have a second domain name forwarded to that domain.

They now wish to use the fowarded domain name as the primary domain and forward the one that is currently pointing to it.

I've successfully 'moved' a WordPress installation a number of times from sub directories to root and so on, but I'm sure that the steps will be slightly different here. I've had a look at the http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress page, specifically the When Your Domain Name or URLS change, but I'm a little unsure as to which order to do things in. Do we switch the domain names and then retrospectively change the instances of the domain name in the database?

    Thanks for any advice

Hi, I can't explain the order of steps better than Codex ( http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL ), but if the site has internal links in post content, comments etc. there is useful plugin to change it

This is a good guide, you have to update old url in the db with SQL ;)

Thanks for those links vjpo and YouON, very helpful. I'll read everything through and make a plan.

    Thanks again.
