Change Media Upload Path

I have a set of images in my media library and want to start using a new upload path. I’ve updated the path in Settings/Media, however, that updates the paths to all of the existing images. So, to give you an example, if I’ve been uploading images to wp-content/uploads, and I change the upload path to wp-content/uploads2 then my media library will rewrite the path to all of my images to wp-content/uploads2, but because all the library images are not to be found at the new path, they’re appearing as broken icons. Is there not a way to change the media path without effecting the path to all the images already uploaded to the library?
