    Hi challman,

    You can either try to add this to your css:

    #slider {
    height: 200px;
    }

    whereas 200px is just an example.

    Other than that you have to adjust the images. A rectangle of 1024px by 395px is the maximum dimension an image is cropped for the slider, as the slider always uses the full length of the blog, which is a ratio of 2,6. Any image that is not matching this ratio will be extended or reduced proportional in heigth and width, until the width of the blog is reached. Thats what makes your picture huge – works as designed.
