Change header size (6 posts)

I've been looking through the forum on how to change the header size from 150px. I've installed Firebug and have been able to change with the html but not in the CSS and even still when I do go to upload a header it says it is 150px and asks to crop my image. I changed the #masthead to none in the CSS and still nothing.

How can I change the header size to make it larger than 150px?

    Many Thanks

Thanks very much. One question, do I create a new function.php and also change the custom-header.php? Do i add that filter to the custom-header.php or overwrite the existing code in it?

    Thanks again

You create a new functions.php for your child theme (not the parent theme! That might cause problems); you don't need to touch or do anything in custom-header.php.
