Change from Domain Mapping to Multi Network
-
Can anyone advise me of any caveats when changing from domain mapping plugin to multi network plugin?
I have currently about 3or 4 blogs using domain mapping and want to change so I can host multiple ‘domains’.
Thank You

Usually when you set up a network, it makes a whole new site. you’ll need to set up the secondnetwork first and port the content over.
unlike domain mapping, you cannot pick an exisiting site and call it a network.
(Unless you really know what you’re doing and want to go db diving and are familiar with how multiple networks work)
Thank you Andrea, so should I install another copy of WP 3.1 in the same directory, and give it another registered domain name, and setup the mult-inetwork plugin, then reconstruct the site (with it’s own domain name)?
Maybe a bakcup would be a good start!
By port the content over, do you mean direct it through hardware and IP’s?
(I can do that)Thanks
No.
Look at the plugin instructions. There’s no second install. you make a second network *inside the first one*.
And by port the content I mean use the Export button in the backend.
Sorry I couldn’t find ANY instructions, and after uploading the plugin, I didn’t want to activate it yet. I went to the developer (revisor) site but again found nothing. I even read a very brief ‘text’ description in the plugin editor.
So, where do I find more information?
tks
*export – gotcha
It’s in the readme.txt file.
I read the text file and it doesn’t say much (see below)
Do you know if it will work on 3.4?=== WP Multi Network ===

== Installation ==
You can download and install WP Multi Network using the built in WordPress plugin installer. If you download WP Multi Network manually, make sure it is uploaded to “/wp-content/plugins/wp-multi-network.php”.
Activate in the “Plugins” admin panel using the “Activate” link.
Start planning and creating your networks!
== Frequently Asked Questions ==
= Can I have separate domains? =
Yes you can. That is what this plugin does best!
= Will this work on standard WordPress? =
Yes! But it won’t do anything! You will need to have the multi-site functionality turned on and working before using this WP Multi Network.
= Where can I get support? =
I am most likely to be found on the BuddyPress support forums website: http://buddypress.org/forums/
= Where can I find documentation? =
Not much to talk about really. Check the code for details!
Ye3s, we can also read the readme on the plugins page.
Activate it. Create another network. it will not affect exisiting sites, and it SHOULD work on 3.0.4.
I run multiple networks myself.
Ok, I’ll give it a go!
Thanks
Well I activated the WP Multi Network plugin, created a new network and now I’ve lost the site after assigning it to the new network.
gulfcoastvikings.com (new network) now goes to putzle.com
I do have an apache redirect: gulfcoastvikings.com to vikinglodge3683.putzle.com.
I’m not sure if this is causing it.
If I try to delete the new network its says ‘there are blogs assigned to this network, and it will be deleted too’????I also have domain mapping enabled, should I get rid of it?
Meanwhile my clients cannot their site, please help me!Question on the path. I put it as root /, is this wrong?
please help
