   Can I switch my website from wordpress.com to wordpress.org or do I need to sign up for a new account with .org?

   wordpress.org and wordpress.com are totally differnt lol :D

   Yes but it's a reasonable question and it does crop up from time to time. :-)

   Yes you can but to run a self-hosted WordPress site (what you're referring to as a .org site), you will need web hosting and a domain name first. Have a look at Before_You_Install.
