I recently installed WordPress on my Hostgator account through Fantastico. After I installed the"olddomain.com" the domain I originally wanted became available. I've tried to delete the olddomain.com after reading some old forum posts with no luck. Since my account is new, I don't need to move any files, I just want to have "newdomain.com" as my new address. I don't want to do any redirects. I have my new domain nameservers pointed to my wordpress. I knew it wouldn't be that simple, but didn't think it would be that difficult. I know I could simply fork over fifteen bucks to forward the new domain at hostgator. Thanks for helping.

Have you tried asking HostGator if they can either swap the domain on your account or park the domain on top of the old one?

It's very possible swapping it out for you won't be an issue as many hosts setup your account with the domain in directory structures and config files.

If they can just park the new domain on top of the old domain for you though, then you would just need to go into your WordPress admin under Settings->General and change the Blog URL and WordPress URL to use the new domain.
