I'd like to change the default category of my posts from 'General' to something else. Is that possible? I tried to find a way but didn't see any.

Options - Writing only sets the default for posting by e-mail.

If you set the default category using what I said above, and you also use the advanced edit screen for your posts, then setting the default works.
If you use the 'simple controls' then no, it does not.

Which is strange, isn't it? (Hops over to mosquito to file a bug report)

Or if you don't have a lot of posts that you would need to reclassify (and it appears you only have two), you can always just edit the General category and change the name to something else, which would then be the default. Then if you still want a general category, you could add a new one.
