Change Category to Name from Number (6 posts)

I am stumped on how to change my category pages to pretty links. My permalinks are set as /%category%/%postname%/, but when I just go to a category without a specific post, it still has the category id instead of the category name.

Ex: If you go to http://www.blogbythebay.com

On right menu bar, select category, then select any category, (I choose belvedere), you will end up on a page with all items in that category. Unfortunately, it still shows the cat id like this- http://www.blogbythebay.com/?cat=32
when I want it to look like this http://www.blogbythebay.com/belvedere

If I go to an actual post, the category name does show up in the url correctly - http://www.blogbythebay.com/kentfield/kentfield-21st-annual-woodlands-bbq/

I don't know how to change this for the category pages. Any ideas?

Do you have a > mixed in to your category code somewhere?

I am sad to admit that I am a novice and don't know where to go to find the category code.

It appears that all of your categories [even when called alone] are actually working], i.e. http://www.blogbythebay.com/belvedere - http://www.blogbythebay.com/marin

The problem happens when you use the drop down box to call your categories. I would recommend you have a look at that side of things first.

Looking at your code when you call the category from the drop down box, you end up with the following title:

    <title>Blog By The Bay &raquo; Belvedere</title>

I am guessing that you are using the category widget in the sidebar. AFAIK this is the way the widget displays categories. There may be a plugin that does things by name, but I haven't been able to find one in a really brief search.

Shadow & actorjiml- Thanks. You are right- it is the widget. Darn it- I like that widget. I will have to search for a plugin that does this better or see if I can change the code. Thanks!
