Is this possible? is there a plugin that'll do it? I've had a hunt but can't seem to find one.

Well not a plugin but an idea.
1. Create your new link category.
2. Set the Default Link Category to that new category in Administration > Settings > Writing.
3. Delete the 'old' category and all the links in that old category will be set to the new default category.
A backup of the database might be in order before starting.

Posted 2 years ago #The thing is that not all of the links from one category are going to be in the new category. I'm basically splitting one big category with 250+ links in it into smaller, more specific categories. (Think separating a big pile of books into fiction, non-fiction, poetry, etc etc, You get the idea) Nice idea though.
What I want to be able to do is use the checkbox on the left to select the links I want in the new category, then pick that category from a drop-down and hit a button. Apparently you used to be able to do that but can't anymore :/
