Support » Fixing WordPress » Chameleon – can't edit home page!

  • I have installed the Alvikia Chameleon theme for my webpage at http://www.flamingnibs.co.uk

Some pages were already on the theme, including ‘home’.

There does not appear to be any way to edit ‘home’ or any of the other pages that came with the theme in my dashboard – the only pages appearing in the dashboard are the two I already had: ‘about’ and ‘contact’. Consequently, I don’t seem to be able to place any content on the home page.

    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks
    Sally

  • Home is called index.php You can edit it under Theme/Editor then click on index.php, although there is probably no reason to edit it at this point, since you add content to it by adding new posts, by clicking on “Add New” under the “Posts” menu.

Your home page will show your posts once you make them. You can also set them to show only a short excerpt of the post on the home page.

    Thanks for responding.
I have added new posts – they are appearing under a different heading – ‘categories’, and the homepage is still empty
By editing home, I mean I really need to know how to put content on the
    page.
    Thanks

You must have a theme that has a static homepage.

You can add content to the homepage by clicking on “Pages” in your Dashboard, then select the page named ‘Home’.

Since you have not got Home page in pages list is because you using your website as a blog and home page is a post page by default.

If you want a home page with a content of it own then you will have to create home page and a blank page for your posts you can name the page what ever you want, put your content in home page click on settings reading and select static pages and for front page select home and post page select that blank page you created.
