I updated Twitter Tools last night, which also required adding the Social plugin (since Twitter Tools is now dependent on Social). This morning, I received a ticket from my host saying that my site was “causing high loading issues on the server” and a script had to be shut down.

The ONLY things that changed were Twitter Tools and Social. Twitter Tools downloaded over 3000 tweets when it upgraded last night. Was it trying to post all those tweets as posts?

I don’t want my tweets created into posts at all to begin with, but I can’t find a way to turn that function off.

My site is completely offline right now, and I’ve disabled Twitter Tools altogether. Since “Social” may take care of the autoposting to Twitter and Facebook for me, I’m not sure now what the benefit of Twitter Tools is.

    Any ideas?

  • I concur with the high load – site become ridiculously slow.

aktt_backfill_tweets was apparently a task that was loading up the server (taking bandwidth?). Anyway, I’ve had to just leave Twitter Tools off and I’m hoping it will fix the issue.

The aktt_backfill_tweets functions makes 10 API calls to Twitter per hour.
