    Is it still listed on the "Categories" page in the admin area, or does it just appear on your site ?

    Sorry for the delay getting back to you, the last few days have been pretty hectic.

    Just thought I'd let you know.

    Cheers

    I've had a look at your site, but the categories are not showing up.

    What are the exact steps you took to delete the category ?

    Also, can you list all of your categories & indicate the one you tried to delete & also which one is set as the default.

    If you have access to the dashboard there is only one category listed,I highlighted the name and hit delete,nothing happened.
    On the page there are 4 posts at the head of each one there is a icon of a folder an the words 'Reviews of Debt Relief Companies'
    I would not mind it being there so much if it could actually go to the review page which is http://www.sandysbestreviewscentral.com/debtrelief/
    If you can make it go to the review page or delete it entirely I would be most grateful.

    If there is only one category listed then this should be "Uncategorized", and this can't be deleted.

    I'm a bit confused because you said in your original post that the category you can't delete is one you created.

    Also, I can't see the folder icon or the words you mention.

    It might be easier if you could provide screenshots.

    If you are looking at the right site I dont know why you cannot see it but the site is http://wp.me/1vI4T and the blog address is debt-relief-specialists.com/blog. I sent this address to a friend of mine and he could go straight to it,Paul

    Just to be clear:

    When you delete a single category you move your cursor over the title of the category, & some options will then appear immediately below the title. These are "Edit", "Quick Edit" & "Delete". You then click the "Delete" option.

    Is this what you meant when you said you highlighted the name and hit delete ?

    there is only one category listed

    You have to have at least one category and cannot delete the default one (you can rename it). You probably renamed your category because it's ID is 1 (the default category)

    If you don't assign a Post to a category WordPress will assign it to your Default category.

    You can set the Default Post Category to any category under Settings >Writing

    Remove this from your theme's index.php to remove the category from your front page:

    <div class="postmetadata3">
    <img style="vertical-align:-5px;" alt="categories" src="<?php bloginfo('template_directory'); ?>/images/category.gif" height="16" width="16" /> <?php the_category(', ') ?>
    </div>

    and this from your single.php:

    <img style="vertical-align:-5px;" alt="categories" src="<?php bloginfo('template_directory'); ?>/images/category.gif" height="16" width="16" /> <?php the_category(', ') ?> |

    It appears that you can't add images to posts on this forum.

    Not to worry. To create a screenshot, just hit the "PrtScn" button on your keyboard - this saves a screenshot to your clipboard.

    In Windows, go to "Start", then "All Programs", "Accessories" and finally "Paint". Press and hold down the "Ctrl" button on your keyboard and press "V" - the screenshot will be pasted into Paint.

    In Paint, go to "File" then "Save". You now have an image of the screenshot saved on your computer.

    I've created a throwaway e-mail address so you can e-mail me the image: pixelrat68@googlemail.com.
