The character set for Category Slugs does not include the full legal character set for URIs. For example: parentheses are replaced by underscores.
My use case is that I want my Category Slugs to match those used by Wikipedia in order that semantic web services can infer equivalence of topic. A significant portion of Wikipedia urls make use of parentheses.
