iamjancoThis is a strange one.
We migrated a fully functional WP 3.3 installation from a dev folder to the root of the same site, and it worked at first. Then, we found that for some reason, not only were our widgets associated with displaying posts from all categories (e.g. the default widget) (or from a certain category) not displaying a full list of the available categories, but when you got to the categories panel (add/edit/remove categories), the categories listed there weren't reflecting the number of posts that were assigned those categories, including *uncategorized*. We checked this after disabling all plugins, using the default 2011 theme, without ann luck. We even tried to create a new category and assign posts to it, but that made no difference in the categories panel or the widgets pulling in categories. So we decided to update to 3.3.1, but after successfully doing that and trying to get the categories to work again (e.g., by adding a new category), still no luck.
