Category Post Count In Navigation Menu (6 posts)

Hi! I want to add my categories to my menu - which I already know how to do through the Appearance --> Menu section. However, I want the post count number to be included also.

So for example, I would create a blank menu button then add may categories as dropdowns - I also want the post count to show as if it would in the side bar. I would like for it to look like this in my navigation menu...

    Shoes
    **Boots (12)
    **Heels (9)
    **Flats (17)

In a normal case, the menu would just show the categories in a drop down without the post count. Any ideas or suggestions?

There is a very simple method to do this. Use wp_list_categories and enter the argument 'show_count' => 1

I've read over this page and I don't think this is what I'm looking for or maybe I'm understanding it differently. Here's an example of what I'm looking for:

If you hover over the "Forum", "Articles" or "Classifieds" navigation menu button, the drop down will show the category and the number of posts in the category.

I know that she's using Buddypress but I was not sure if this was a plugin function or a piece of code dropped in.

    Thanks so much!
