category permalinks as pages

Let’s say the content on my site is a mix of static and dynamic content, and therefore is a mix of “pages” and “posts”.

I want my navigation bars or sidebar page widgets to include both my static pages (like mysite.com/about) and category pages (like mysite.com/category/dogs). something like this:
About me (static page)
About my dog (static page)
About my sister’s dog (static page)
Funny dog photos (dynamic page containing all posts in category “funnydogphotos”)
Famous dogs (dynamic page containing all posts in category “famousdogs”)

For navigational purposes, I want to be able to link to all of these pages from the same “list” (more specifically I want to display them in a navigation bar but I think the code treats it the same way). Are there any plugins or shortcuts that would allow this?
