Category Page Image Preview

I want to use the category page to display my featured posts sorted bt the assigned category. I would like the featured posts to include the title, text excepts, and an image fore preview. How can I do this? I’ve tried using the “post image” setting in the post editor, and the image does appear in the category page, but it also shows up inside the post itself – which is what I don’t want. Please assist. Thanks!
