Support » Plugin: The Events Calendar » Category Filters and iCal

  • Hi,

I’m trying to put together a site for my son’s Cub-Scout pack. One of the key elements of this is the ability to have a shared calendar, so I’m thinking The Events Calendar is the way to go.

    However.

I don’t want all events showing up for all users. The pack is split up into Dens. Most of the events will be meetings, so the full calendar will contain Pack meetings as well as all the individual den meetings. There will also be other random events / groupings (for example Committe Meetings and Den Leader training).

Some events should be public and be shown to everyone.
Most events should be only available to logged in users.
Some events will be for specific groups of users only (like Den Leader training).

This part I think I can do.

My first sticking point is that I want my users (through their profiles) to be able to select which meetings they get in their calendar. I intend to have a category for each Den and then I want my users to be able to subscribe to the Den / Dens that their son / sons are in.

My second issue is that I also want to be able to provide an iCal feed (that is dynamically updated) for each user.

U have searched both here and more widely with Google and most of what I have turned up is old or references plugins that are no longer supported. I also see references to iCal, but I see no link at the bottom of the Calendars!

I am developing my own theme, so am happy to get into a bit of coding, if I need to, but I don’t want to re-invent the wheel, so-to-speak, so can anyone offer any advice?

Many thanks for any help anyone can offer!

  • Hi Wierdbeard65,

As mentioned in our sticky thread (http://m.tri.be/10), we unfortunately are unable to help with with customization, styling or integration issues not caused by bugs with The Events Calendar. You have a few options:

    1. Check out our extensive support resources and try to figure it out on your own: http://m.tri.be/z & http://m.tri.be/5b
    2. Hire a developer to assist you. We’ve got a list of freelancers who know our code and who we can vouch for. Email us (pro at tri.be) and we’ll pass that list your way.
    3. Purchase a Pro license to get more support: http://m.tri.be/11. As mentioned in the sticky thread, we can provide both a deeper and more frequent level of support for PRO users.

I hope that helps and good luck!

    Cheers,

    Thanks,

I wasn’t aware that what I was looking for actually was a customization.

*.ics feeds are mentioned all over the place, as are categories. I assumed they were part of the base product but that I couldn’t find the documentation :-/

    Ahh well.

I have no budget, so the pro version is no good for me. I will have to look at alternatives.
