I'm currently developing a new website and using this plugin for the first time. I have adjusted per the string above yet I'm still getting all publications in both categories. Also when I click on a publication in a category I'm getting page not found.

4BWebDesign - this is strange indeed. Would you please show me the exact shortcode you're using?

    Community Development Agendas:
    [wp-publication-archive categories="Community Development Agendas" showas="dropdown" /]
    Community Development Minutes:
    [wp-publication-archive categories="Community Development Minutes" showas="dropdown" /]

I took the advice from the string I got this info from and used the category name in lieu of cat1, cat2 etc.

I was wondering also is there a way to remove the small text "Download Publication"? I would like to just type out at the top of the page instructing visitors that they can download the. When it's all said and done, there will end up being like 10-15 different drop downs.

    Yes.

The file that generates the markup (both the dropdown and the text "Download Publication") is /includes/template.wppa_publication_dropdown.php. Copy this file (template.wppa_publication_dropdown.php into your theme and you can customize it in whatever way you need.

As for the category filter issue ... I'd need to see exactly how your publications are set up. Can you please contact me outside of the forum (eric[at]eamann[dot]com) so we can set up a way for me to diagnose this directly?

I sent you the information you requested per your email but I didn't get a response. I'm still getting all publications pulling up in both categories and when I click on any of the archives, I'm getting a page not found.

    please advise

I am having the same issue as 4BWebDesign. The category filter isn't working (shows all categories) and when I click on a publication from the dropdown menu it gives a page not found error.

I have the same problem. When I choose a category, only the posts are presented. I can't see the publications that are part of that category.

If the category has only publications, the WP returns 'Page not found'.

Still have the same issue. I emailed Eric per his request above to me but have not got a response. Hopefully there is a resolve for this. I really need this plugin for a client.

@4BWebDesign - Never received the email from you

@elisabetemmaciel - What do you mean "choose a category"? If you're looking at a category archive (http://site.com/category/{category-name}/) then you will only see posts since that's all WordPress displays on category archive pages.

What's happening is When I load the publication and place it in one of the categories, on the front end That publication that I wanted to show up in the First category, is showing up in both. Then when I click on that publication in either category, it's coming up with Page Not Found.

    Thanks for your answer.

With "choose a category" I refer to the possibility of seing both posts and publications at the categories widget.

As the categories are the same for posts and publications (notice that if I use links the category classification is different from that one of posts), I expected that the categories widget recognize both.

Is that right? It's possible to resolve this problem?

@elisabetemmaciel - Publications will not show up in any existing category widget. Those widgets query posts specifically, not other content types.

    @4BWebDesign

What's happening is When I load the publication and place it in one of the categories, on the front end That publication that I wanted to show up in the First category, is showing up in both.

This is a bug. I will look into it. This is likely because the dropdown template was a community contribution and is ignoring the category filter.

Then when I click on that publication in either category, it's coming up with Page Not Found.

The Page Not Found error is likely because your permalinks need to be flushed. Recent updates to the plugin changed the way links are handled, and you'll need to navigate to Settings >> Permalinks to get WordPress to clear out the old rules and recognize the new ones.
