Category display

Hi, I’m not quite sure if that is possible at all but: I want to create some categories, some of them would have sub-categories. So far, so good. I want to display the most popular posts of those categories on my front page with thumbnails. I want them to be ordered and displayed like a gallery. I’m posting lots of video clips, that’s the whole idea.
