   It is very very very annoying that there are no tools for moving posts from one category to another.
   I had hoped that I could setup the default category via the options > writings, and then just delete a category, but apparently that's not where the category setup page gets it's 'default' category from...

   You can change a post's category simply by editing it, and selecting the desired cat from the list on the right.

   There's a patch for this in the bug tracker:
   http://mosquito.wordpress.org/bug_view_page.php?bug_id=0000176
   When this is commited, posts from a deleted category will be dumped into the *selected* default category, not just cat 1.
