I receive an error when attempting to add a category. The error is as follows:

    Not Acceptable
An appropriate representation of the requested resource /XXXXXX/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php could not be found on this server.

    Apache/1.3.37 Server at XXXXXX.com Port 80

It will not let me add any categories at all. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Anyone? I'm new to WordPress, so it could be a settings issue or something. I'm not sure what might do the trick.

I should probably also mention that I have no plug-ins installed, and the problem does not resolve itself after logging out and back in. Additionally, I cleared my cache and cookies before logging back in.

Just adding info as it hits me...

I also cannot add a category from a new post. I get the same error.

I really hate to be a pest and keep bumping this thing, but I'm at a loss for what to do here. Help!

I'm not really sure what to do. In the absense of other advice, I would re-install the wp admin files, the entire folder.
    - maybe dbl check the wp-config.php file?
    - and when all else fails, I reboot the computer - at least the ftp client, & browser.

Rebooted computer, re-installed entire wp-admin folder and rebooted again.

I've looked at the wp-config.php file, but nothing seems out of order.

    Still no luck.

This was an auto-install via Fantastico in cPanel. Would that have caused a problem for any reason?

This is really getting frustrating. Could there be a problem with admin-ajax.php?

Update: I installed the Category Overload plugin. While that did produce a database error, it wasn't a fatal error and I had the ability to add categories. After deactivating the plugin, the categories I created remained. SO, I guess I've found a way around the problem (activate Category Overload when I want to add a category, then deactivate it), but I would still like to solve my original problem.

I have the same problem and have been looking for a solution but no luck. Is there a way to fix it, other then the response of the Category Overload plugin?
